I almost missed a deadline last week because I was staring at a blank screen for three straight hours, coffee gone cold, brain completely fried. Finally caved and dumped the whole mess into Claude. It spit back something usable in under a minute. Not perfect, but good enough that I could stop hating myself and actually finish the damn thing.

The newest version handles longer drafts without going off the rails. I threw a rambling 1,800-word mess at it and it actually spotted the weak parts without making everything sound like a LinkedIn post. Gemini is convenient because it’s tied to my Google account. I dump PDFs in and it finds connections. Grok for quick X gossip. Perplexity when I need sources that seem real. I jump between them depending on the day and which one hasn’t hit its limit yet.
Visual stuff is all over the place.
I bounce between Leonardo, ChatGPT’s image thing, and Gemini. Leonardo did okay with a lazy prompt like “weird rainy alley with glowing signs.” Gave me a moody cyberpunk scene first try. Same prompt later and it added random floating cats. No clue why. The menus are annoying too — always hunting for buttons. Still beats paying.
Video and images feel like the same pain. CapCut is the one I actually use. Turned shaky backyard footage into a reel with captions and music that mostly matched. Google’s video tool in their AI studio did a foggy trail scene that looked pretty real. Wasted time on one prompt where the person kept walking backward. HeyGen for a couple avatar videos with cloned voice. Mine sounded too clean, like I’d been replaced. Luma and Runway for weird experimental clips. Limits always kick in at the worst time.
Coding-wise, Claude caught a dumb bug in my Python script I’d been stuck on for days. GitHub Copilot’s free suggestions help keep small projects moving. I switch between a couple of them when I get frustrated.
Audio is whatever. ElevenLabs gave me enough voice for a short thing. Fixed the weird pauses myself and stuck it in CapCut. Local Whisper when I don’t want to upload my messy recordings.
Sometimes I chain a few together — rough structure in one, facts in another, pictures, then edit. It can save time. Other times the servers lag, the output is generic, and I end up rewriting half of it anyway. Spent ten minutes yesterday looking for a button in Leonardo that moved again. Felt like an idiot.
